I love how kids retell what they learned. When they do the Word is so fresh and raw...
so thought I'd share the boys re-telling of the beginning of Joseph's story...
Josiah says "I learned that Joseph ran and left his coat (when Potiphar's wife cornered him) and I learned that Joseph went to prison and he shouldn't have gone to prison. Sometimes things just happen and you just need to go with the flow...they happen to me all the time... BUT.. Joseph should have told that she was lying."
Jonathan says "His brothers tied him up and put him in this pit and these merchants were comin and they said 'hey maybe if we sell him we'll get some money'....and he was suppose to go to some castle and they go to some other castle and then some girl wants to marry him but, she's was already married to another person....then she lied ....and he ran away...and then her husband got furious and threw him in jail and then all of a sudden he was in charge of everything in the jail"
I absolutely love how kids retell what they learned...it really shows what sunk in and what didn't exactly set in..
It's been a little while since I've written anything on here. I realized it's difficult to do when hubby is home...I suppose my time is better well spent cuddling with my handsome husband...BUT since he left today for a 3 week trip to India...Back to blogging :)
We read today about Joseph and the kids loved the story of Joseph and his brothers and that coat and how his brothers treated him. They learned that even though someone has the favor of God on their side sometimes bad things can still happen to them.
I am really loving the interaction of reading through the Bible with my kids and I really love how they cheer when I say "OK guys get out your Bibles"
I know it pleases the Lord to see his children so eager to soak up His word.

Daddy in the mix
One of the many amazing things about Jonathan being home is ...He is able to read our passages with the kids and help them understand the word. He always brings such insight. What an amazing man of God I have been blessed with...and my kids have been blessed with.
Yesterday, We read about Abraham being tested ....When God asked him to sacrifice Isaac his only son... Jonathan brought up how God asking Abraham to sacrifice his son mirrored how He would sacrifice his son so that we might be saved. I think the kids listen more readily when Daddy is reading..
Just fine with me!
Some things they say they are learning lately...
Anastasia
"I learned that when God told Abraham to sacrafice Isaac he was just testing Him. Sometimes God will test us but, we can trust Him"
Jonathan
"Isaac needed a wife and he got a girl named Rebecca ...and that taught me that if God asks you to do something just do it. God will take care of you when you obey"
Josiah
"I learned that God asked Abraham to kill Isaac and then God said stop... and that is teaching me.... TO NEVER KILL MY SON..... (with a huge smile as if to say....Just kidding mom) This kid is funny! What a joker!
Anneliese
"Abraham was gonna kill his son because Jesus said so...and then he didn't because Jesus loved Isaac"

The Lego Tower of Babel
After making our way through the genealogy of Noah I decided that the kids needed something to make this a little more interesting today. I thought an object lesson was going to be the best way to go about this! First, we built what was to be a very tall Lego tower with NO talking, Only grunting allowed, In 5 minutes. This was rather funny!
...to mimic the confusion of languages in Gen. 11.
...in the beginning
It was an effective object lesson if I do say so myself since by the end of the building of the first tower Josiah was mad at Anastasia and upset that the tower did not get put together to his liking. Needless to say he did not want to continue this lesson!
As you can see in my pictures the first tower actually wound up being 3 small towers...that we couldn't quite figure out how to connect because no one really took the leadership.(since we couldn't speak)
The rules for round two were that we could speak and work together. WOW what a difference! Jonathan immediately took a leadership being the expert lego builder that he is! He is my lego maniac. Once the plans were made the tower went up and it became a challenge to try to use every lego no matter what it's shape...It w
ound up being the better tower BY FAR...
The kids worked together and saw the benefits of communication. They also learned ....
"We shouldn't try to do things so that other people will like us more and think we're better than other people"
We wrapped up the morning with Chapter 12.. Abraham's call and trip to Egypt... in which they learned "If you do what God asks He will be there with you and take care of you" or so they tell me ;)
I'm thinking that this blogging thing is going to have to be every 2-3 days...in order to keep my sanity. But, for now I am loving this!

Day 1
And so begins our journey through the Bible.
My hopes for this blog is to chronicle the journey the Gannon kids as they venture to make it through the entire Bible together.
So.... tantrums, crankiness, sickness and all. Here we go!
Our goal is to read three chapters in the morning and three chapters in the evening.
If you are wondering how in the world is she going to have time to blog about that....well, I need to do something to keep me busy when my kids work on their math right?
Today was really day two of our journey. Yesterday we began in Genesis 1 and read about creation, and the fall of man.
Some of the things that stuck out to the kids
- the realization that the garden was at the head of the Tigris river which they learned about in school so they knew exactly where that was!
-When God created trees He created them with fruit on them...they didn't have to grow...they had the appearance of age.
What we learned about ourselves
-Anastasia"I learned that I need to listen to what I am told to do" ..."like Eve should have"
-Jonathan"I learned that you should always obey God"
-Josiah"I learned that if you don't obey God you'll be butt naked"
I TOLD YOU I WAS GONNA GIVE IT ALL TO YA.....NO FLUFF HERE!!!
-Anneliese"Adam and Eve ate from the bad and good tree when they were not suppose to and when they ate they realized they were naked and they still had their eyes opened that's all I know nothing else....(In her most grumpy voice)
As far as the Angelina is concerned she ran through our circle the entire time distracting the kids...It really is a wonder anyone remembers anything! Seriously!
Despite the littlest one running through our time together I really enjoyed it!
I never get tired of reading how God created the world and each thing/person he created has purpose...the sun, the moon, the stars and most of all us!
